Cookie policy
This page lists every cookie this site sets, what each one is for, how long it lasts, and how to refuse the ones that are not strictly necessary.
1. What cookies are
1.1 The short version
A cookie is a small text file a site asks your browser to store. It lets the site recognise the same browser on a later request. Similar technologies, such as local storage, do the same job in a different place, and this policy treats them the same way.
1.2 Who sets them
A first-party cookie is set by this site. A third-party cookie is set by another service loaded on the page. Both types are listed in clause 2 if they are used at all.
2. Cookies used on this site
Complete list. If a cookie is not on it, this site is not meant to be setting it — tell me at hello@shapemyvisuals.com and I will look.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Type | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| [cookie_name] | shapemyvisuals.com | Remembers your cookie choice so you are not asked again | Strictly necessary | 12 months |
| [cookie_name] | shapemyvisuals.com | Protects the enquiry form against automated submissions | Strictly necessary | Session |
| [cookie_name] | [Analytics provider] | Counts page views in aggregate so I can see which pages are read | Measurement | [Duration] |
| [storage_key] | shapemyvisuals.com | Local storage: keeps your place in the project calculator | Functional | Until cleared |
2.1 Strictly necessary cookies
These are needed for the site to work and to keep the form usable. They are not used to identify you and they cannot be switched off from inside the site, though your browser can block them.
2.2 Measurement
Measurement tells me how many people read a page, not who they are. It is only set where you have agreed to it, and refusing it changes nothing about how the site behaves for you.
3. What this site does not use
- No advertising or retargeting cookies.
- No social media tracking pixels.
- No cross-site profiling, and nothing shared with data brokers.
- No device fingerprinting.
- No session recording or heatmap tools.
4. How to control cookies
4.1 In your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, either for all sites or for this one. The setting is usually under privacy or site permissions. Blocking everything is your call, and this site is built to still be readable if you do.
4.2 Withdrawing your agreement to measurement
Clear cookies for this site in your browser and the measurement cookie is removed along with the record of your earlier choice. You will be asked again on your next visit.
4.3 What stops working
Blocking strictly necessary cookies may mean the enquiry form rejects a submission, and the project calculator will forget your answers if you reload the page. Nothing else depends on cookies.
5. Definitions
- Session cookie
- Deleted as soon as you close the browser.
- Persistent cookie
- Stays until it expires or you delete it. The expiry is listed in clause 2.
- Local storage
- A browser store that holds data on your device until it is cleared. Not sent to a server with every request, unlike a cookie.
- Strictly necessary
- Required to deliver the service you asked for. Under UK law these do not need your agreement.
6. Changes to this policy
The table in clause 2 is updated whenever a cookie is added or removed, and the date at the top of the page changes with it. How personal information is handled more generally is set out in the privacy policy.
